Christmas Carol. Away in a manger

Traditional Christmas Carol
Christmas season 2015
Sant Marc School
Cal Bassacs, Gironella

AWAY IN A MANGER
LYRICS
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed.
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.
The stars in the night sky looked down where He lay.
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

Away in a manger, no crib for a bed.
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.
The stars in the night sky looked down where He lay.
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
JESUS, JESUS, JESUS

The cattle are lowing, the poor baby awakes,
the little Lord Jesus, no crying He makes.
I love Thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
and stay by my cradle 'til morning is nigh.
JESUS, JESUS, JESUS
HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH
HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed.
The little Lord Jesus lay down His sweet head.
The stars in the night sky looked down where He lay.
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.
JESUS, JESUS, JESUS

TRANSLATION

HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF THIS CHRISTMAS CRADLE SONG

Away in a Manger was first published in a Lutheran Sunday School book in 1885 by James R. Murray. The carol is set to two well known tunes. Cradle Song, more commonly heard in Britain, was written by William J. Kirkpatrick, and first published in 1895. Mueller, more common in the United States, was written by James R. Murray, and first published in 1887.
