MICROORGANISMS: We describe the microorganisms

Scaffolding is a very important step in order to talk and express opinions, they help us to structure sentences, learn vocabulary and also encourage us to go on in our learning . We've started doing it describing the microorganisms we could see using a microscope.

MICROORGANISMS: Bacteria are everywhere!

WHY DO I NEED TO WASH MY HANDS IF THEY SEEM TO BE CLEAN?

MATERIAL:
- our hands and our face
- 7 Petri dishes
- bacteria's food
- soap and water
- sellotape
- heater

WHAT DID WE DO?

  • First, we need six volunteers
  • All of them wash their hands
  • Then, student 1a and 1b, without touching anything, they touched the bacteria's food in the Petri dish 1a and 1b.
  • Later on, student 2a and 2b touched their face and then touched the bacteria's food in the Petri dish 2a and 2b.
  • Afterwards, student 3a and 3b touched everything around them, everything they usually touch and they touched the Petri dish 3a and 3b.
  • We didn't touch the Petri dish numer four.
  • Finally, we closed them with Sellotape
  • We put the Petri dishes on the radiator and we wait three days.
RESULT:

1a and 1b: There's nearly anything in the Petri Dish
2a and 2b: We can see yellow dots: there're bacteria!
3a and 3b: We can see lots of yellow dots: there are more bacteria!
4: Nothing happened.

CONCLUSION:

There's bacteria everywhere
We have to wash our hands before eating!

MICROORGANISMS: Let's answer the questions we had!

FUNGI: Is mouldy and rotten the same?

FUNGI: Are there good fungi and bad fungi?

BACTERIA: Why do I need to wash my hands if they seem to be clean?

VIRUS: Why am I ill?
